  • Seasonal Allergies: The why and how to fight them!!

IT'S FINALLY SPRING TIME!!!! I have such a love hate relationship with this time of the year aka the REAL New Year. When everything is reborn and new. I love the beauty of Spring but this body of mine, FORGET ABOUT IT!! Like, literally, the season JUST started and I'm already hiding inside to keep from having an asthma attack smh. BUT!! I found a way to fight these symptoms And might I add, it's 100% or maybe 95% natural!! Lately, I've been on a spiritual journey. Bettering myself mentally, physically, spiritually, emotionally, pretty much just getting closer to God and becoming a better version off myself. A big part of that journey has been trying to watch and change what I put into my body. The research put into my finds and daily journey are how I've been able to come up with my natural allergy fighting tips and tricks. So, here's what I've been doing to combat these HORRIBLE symptoms of mine (I mean honestly this should be a disability, but I'm just saying). I've been making tea. Thats right!! Just tea. And to help with inflammation from and irritated throat, I take turmeric, that can be found in either the root form, capsule form, and/or powder form. I personal do not like the taste of pure turmeric so I take it in capsule form (I have to do better). Here's the skinny on this tea and the significance of each ingredient. I use blueberries (main ingredient) I don't actually measure my ingredients, but I do use more blueberries than anything and here's why. Blueberries (well most berries) are packed full of quercetin. Quercetin is a yellow crystalline pigment present in plants, used as a food supplement to reduce allergic responses and boost immunity. Other super fruit that do not contain quercetin but help fight allergies are pineapples. Pineapples contain bromelain, an enzyme that breaks down protein and minimizes irritations from allergies. Bromelain can relieve swollen itchy eyes, redness and runny nose. Pineapple is also one of my favorite fruit. The other ingredients that I use are local honey. I was put on by either my grandma or someone else's grandma (don't judge me) on how adding pure local honey (pollenated unfiltered honey) to my daily diet can help you become immune to to effects of the pollen etc that cause seasonal allergies. Who ever grandma that was, she was a life saver. Oh, and I forgot to mention that honey also helps sooth irritated throat. Y'all know what I mean too, that itchy irritated scratchy feeling in your throat that has you making that loud annoying scratch nose to scratch your throat because unfortunately we cant actually stick our fingers down there and scratch smh.......THE STRUGGLE!! I use ginger. Ginger helps strengthen the immune system and acts as a natural antihistamine. Ginger reduces symptoms such as nasal congestion, cough, runny nose, and headaches. Ginger helps with over all health. And there are times that these allergies get so bad to the point that my body reacts as if I am sick with a cold. This is literally from just feeling so weak and not being able to breathe and then here comes the asthma attacks. So at this point I have a cup of ginger tea per day to not only fight against allergy symptoms but to better my all around health. And here's a known fact, the true state of your health starts in your gut. (SURPRISINGLY) THEY weren't lying when they said we are what we eat. Last but NOT least on my list of ingredients for this life saving tea is lemons. Lemons are probably one of the most multi use fruits I know of (still researching though so don't quote me). Lemons are high in vitamin C, which boos the immune system and helps the body reduce asthma triggers. Lemons are also packed with antioxidants that are concentrated in lemon juice which helps the body to fight off any allergy or irritant that enters. Please see link below for a details of these other foods that could help combat allergies: tomatoes, green tea, dark leafy greens, avocados, oatmeal, beans & nuts, To make the tea simply scoop some blueberries into a mug or a large heat safe cup along with three table spoons of local honey, cut and peeled ginger (I use a huge one or two inch chunk depending on how bad I feel), and two split and squeezed lemons. Now, this is optional, but to get the most out of my lemons after I split them and squeeze them, I use the remaining peel in my tea as well. Once all of my ingredients are in my cup, I take some spring water, pour it in the cup mash up my berries while in water and eat heat it on the stove or microwave it. Now I do know that theres a lot of radiation behind using a microwave but this is just what I do when I really don't have the time or patience to wait at the stove. I allow my tea to heat for about 3 minutes or at least until my tea is boiling. Take it out of the microwave and allow to steep for about 2 or 3 minutes and then drink it......ALL OF IT!! Best to drink before bed or nap time to give your body that extra boost to hep it heal and recover while you rest. I've been trying to find natural alternatives to allergy medicine for years since I've been allergic to different forms of allergy medicine. Now that I am on this journey trying to do right by myself and really take care of myself, I am grateful that I've been blessed with this knowledge and able to share. I really hope this tea helps someone the way its helped me. It's only been a few days and I already feel way better with no signs of an asthma attack. If you haven't already, please like and share this post. You never know who it will help. Also, please do your research and/or feel free to reach out for advice on alternative in the case that you may have any allergies to any of the items listed above. Y’all it’s been such a crazy year and it’s only March. March 18th at that like ok 2020 we get it, let me head back to 2019 real quick so I can press restart. SHEESH!!!! Everyone is freaking out about this quarantine thing smh. Buying ALL of the tissue, antibacterial products etc that they’ve never used and/or probably never used. And I’m just sitting here in survival mode like yeah I already know how this goes. Thank God for my tome in the Army and growing up in the hood 😭😭😭. So the main thing on my mind is one, my kids are all over the place and two, business is about to get hit hard, BUT GOD! I‘m not so much worried about sitting in the house being an introvert I’m a homebody most of the time anyways. So I've literally been sitting back watching everyone freak out about being on lock down. The only thing I really miss is taking my walks through the neighborhood so now I’m oh no don’t touch and no you can’t come over lol. Once I heard that this virus is fatal to those of us with asthma I freaked out. So, my kids have literally been in and on everything in my apartment lol. My two year old and five year old are always picking on each other and my eight year is clearly 15 stuck in a child’s body but hey, what do I know. I do feel for those parents and entrepreneurs who are not used to working from home with their children being home. Me on the other hand, this is everyday life. Now as far as business goes, I’ve been keeping contact with other people to a bare minimum. Trying to keep thing clean and sanitized, thats gets even harder with a busy body for a roommate not knowing what germs they bring home. Anywho, I’ve put out notices warning clients that I will not be taking any clients for any in person services until further notice. Since I work from home, I have to be really careful bringing people home where my children are. So my business has taken a big hit. With hair and makeup artistry being the main sources of income for my business. I‘be been putting attention on other parts of my business like business product promo (blogging, creating content), modeling, and graphic design (business websites and creating logos). I will be offering another service called the New Business Package. This package will include the website, and add ons such as logo, marketing, site management, business social media accounts, and payment accounts for secure payment. I will also offer the EIN. Of course a contract will be created to ensure a professional working relationship for each project. As far as regular everyday life goes, I’m trying to reconnect with hobbies that I love. A few of those hobbies include singing, writing (hence more frequent blog post), and designing jewelry (although it’s another form of income, not too many are blessed to do what they love for a living). I guess the real goal is to find things to pass the time. I really love this quote that I found on IG, please don’t quote me I don’t remember the full quote or who said it but it went something like this: 👇🏽 “God put us in time out to recollect and reconnect with him and ourselves. Use this time wisely.” Something like that. The is, things are crazy right now but never forget whose in charge. This too shall pass. Please don’t get lost in the chaos. And if you’ve never prayed before, it’s never too late to start. God bless y’all 🙏🏽❤️
